Isaac Rivas-Savell

Isaac Rivas-Savell has led a diverse and successful career in education for over 18 years. Isaac began his teaching career in 2006 in a third and fourth grade classroom in the Roswell Independent School District. Isaac then transitioned to a 6th and 7th grade science teaching assignment in Eunice Public Schools. Isaac continued his teaching career as a 5th grade English Language Arts Lead Teacher. Isaac served as an Instructional Coach for both English Language Arts and Math, a District Mentor to incoming staff, and assistant principal at the elementary school level.

Following his time in the classroom, Isaac was recruited by the New Mexico Public Education Department to serve in the role of Teacher Liaison. In this role, he designed and delivered professional development for teachers across the state, empowered and trained teachers to submit and deliver public testimony at open legislative sessions, led three teacher leadership cohorts with over 750 teachers as members from across New Mexico, engaged teachers in educational policy, trained teachers to write and submit print-worthy op-eds, cohosted a podcast averaging several hundred listeners with content designed to inform teachers and local stakeholders on statewide educational initiatives, and co-designed and cohosted the largest professional development training in New Mexico for over 1300 teachers: The New Mexico Teacher Summit.

Isaac was awarded a highly selective and competitive fellowship with Build. Excel. Sustain. to engage in a rigorous, yearlong, full-time training program in urban charter school creation and leadership with the goal of founding a high-performing school in Albuquerque, NM. He participated in over 75 development days focused primarily on school leadership, curriculum development, and education budget and finance. Isaac had the unique experience of in-person, live observation, and study of 40 exemplar schools nationwide and completed a two-months-long leadership residency at a highly successful, middle school in the Bronx, NYC, NY.

Isaac is now leading Voz Collegiate Preparatory Charter School, a 6th-12thth grade school, for the students and families of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Voz Collegiate is a computer science focused middle school that is outperforming the city and the district in both reading and math proficiencies.
